Jo and Nicky Darc make up The Twistettes with their dirty, twisted bass sound, a hit of swinging flare and thumping driving drums. They are punk, art-rock, riot grrrl, real-deal indie with a touch of psychobilly. The band have performed at various venues from the legendary Glasgow Barrowlands to secret underground parties. They are regulars on the UK festival circuit and have toured in the UK and South East Asia.

In 2016 the band released debut album ‘Jilt the Jive’. They quickly gained momentum and a strong reputation as a powerful live act. Follow up album ‘A Strange Play’ was released in 2018 on the back of the bands trip to Asia. Having made music together since they picked up instruments they have a sixth sense when it comes to making music together that fuels the relentless sound they create.

2020 saw the band release a live album from the depths of lockdown ‘Live from Captureworks’ which included a mix of fan favourites and previously unrecorded material including the single ‘Tory Cunts’. Currently the band are finalising the new album for release in 2024/2025 with a summer of festivals filled with new material!

Press

‘‘The Twistettes are duo of sisters who have utilized the simplest but most effective of concepts and made something quite wonderful in the process. The D’Arc sisters, Jo and Nicky have used a battered drum kit, their vocals and a fuzzed out bass to craft Jilt The Jive and its beauty is in its graceful simplicity and clarity.’’'

Louder than War

‘‘a mangled bass that cough’s like an early morning crack house; solid, yet sparse rivet-gun drums, and Jo D’arc’s voice that crystallises over the entire riot grrrl rage’’

Louder than War

It was time then, for the main course, The Twistettes, their set was comprised almost (if not completely) of their new material and had an undulating, writhing moshpit at its feet. The energy of the place was palpable and intoxicating, angst-ridden punk rock vibrating to the higher frequency of love is a special thing indeed. The new stuff sounded fucking immense live, and as if they hadn’t blown my mind enough the encore knocked me dead…

New Hellfire Club

“Nicky D’arc thrashing away on the drums like her life depends on it and her sister Jo playing her grumbling, menacing bass as a lead instrument at the kind of torturous volume that might even impress Spinal Tap, and that will make your speakers spin across your room if they are not sufficiently weighted down. The big, grimy audio landscape of their adrenaline-fuelled, feedbackalicious accompaniment is the perfect foundation for the duo’s aggressive and angry sounding vocals to build on.  Hailing as they do from Lady Sturgeon’s manor, Jo and Nicky sing with their native brogue.’’
